If you know people who could use our services, please have them call our Program Manager, Alys Glaze, to set up an evaluation meeting.
We use the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) to evaluate a native speaker’s reading level and then use this to develop a learning plan. Our program is based on the Laubach Way to Reading, a phonics-based teaching program. If students have a particular need, the tutor will supplement the lessons to include their goals.
For English as a Second Language learners (ESL), we use the Laubach Way to English with an intensive focus on conversation. Many of our ESL students want to receive their citizenship so we have a curriculum that will help them prepare for the test.
Our tutors receive intense training to prepare them to work with various abilities and needs. We offer supplemental materials to help with financial and health literacy, as well as life and job skills.
For GED students, we have the most current test preparation materials with a CD instructor guide, and we collaborate with Region 9’s Adult Education GED classes.
Our tutors are motivated and extremely creative – they do what it takes to help our students succeed!
