Spelling Bee

The Wichita Adult Literacy Council, Inc’s (WALC) 16th Annual Adult Spelling BEE was a grand success! The 16th Annual BEE raised more than $14,000 to help the 24% of functionally illiterate adults in our community.

Mark your calendars for November 13th 2013 at 11:30AM at Region 9 ESC in the Wichita Rooms, 301 Texas Loop 11, Wichita Falls, TX 76306. Please note our new location!  You don’t want to miss out on our next Bee!

For those of you who have not had the opportunity to participate as a BEE audience member, speller, or sponsor, BEE aware that you may purchase tickets at the door that will include lunch catered by Branding Iron for $12. If you would like to participate in the BEE audience participation round, you may do so for $10.

WALC has many corporate sponsors that participate in the BEE each year. The cost for sponsoring a BEE team is $500 (still the same price as 15 years ago, and it is tax deductible). The sponsorship of a BEE team will allow the sponsor three BEE tickets for the BEE spellers’ lunch and two BEE tickets for the BEE audience cheerleaders (five tickets total).

The honey raised at the BEE goes toward the cost of purchasing training materials for our adult low-literacy students. Our spelling BEE teams usually have quite entertaining BEE cheerleaders. This is a great event where the whole community comes together to support WALC. Come on Wichita Falls! BEE a BEE supporter! There are doctors, lawyers, businesses, individuals, and corporations who would have great BEE fun while supporting a worthwhile tax deductible event that helps put so much back into the community. You gotta BEE there…bzzzzzz!

WALC is excited about increased emphasis on certain literacy issues such as workforce literacy, financial literacy, health literacy, citizenship, etc. We are very grateful to receive funds from the United Way to work with our clients on financial literacy issues. The funding also allows for an on-site GED class with collaboration from Region 9′s Adult Education. We now have a great One-Stop Shop with all of the necessary collaborative partners: Region 9, WALC, and Workforce Solutions to better serve our shared clients! Please help WALC by supporting the BEE! BEE there or BEE square!
